UCMI Recognizes World Malaria Day 2026

This World Malaria Day, the University of California Malaria Initiative (UCMI) recognizes the global impact of a disease that continues to affect more than 200 million people each year and claims over 600,000 lives, disproportionately impacting some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.

This year, we are highlighting the voices behind our work. Across UCMI, team members share personal reflections on why malaria elimination matters to them, from lived experiences with the disease to a deep commitment to advancing health equity and protecting future generations.

These perspectives reflect the heart of our mission. UCMI is committed to advancing science, strengthening partnerships, and pursuing a clear path toward malaria elimination, driven by the people working every day to make that vision a reality.

Watch the videos below to hear directly from the people behind this work and learn about the progress toward malaria elimination.
